New Year rates at Manali hotels are non-refundable once confirmed. Rohtang closes for snow and for the daily vehicle quota; where it does, we run the Atal Tunnel to Sissu instead at no extra cost.
January and February, yes — in Manali town itself. Late December is usually the first fall but it is not reliable. From March the snow retreats to Solang and Rohtang, and by May you need the Atal Tunnel to Sissu to find any. We tell you honestly which month you are booking into.
The tunnel, most of the time. Rohtang needs a permit against a daily quota of 1,200 vehicles, closes on Tuesdays for maintenance and shuts entirely from November to May. The tunnel is open year round and puts you in Sissu — snow, a waterfall and far fewer people — in under an hour.
Twelve to fourteen hours by road. The overnight Volvo leaves Delhi around 5 to 6pm and reaches Manali by morning, which is why every itinerary here starts that way. Flying to Bhuntar cuts it to a 50-minute drive, but that sector cancels often in bad weather.
Yes, but book a property in Old Manali or up the Naggar road rather than on Mall Road. May and June are peak domestic season and the town centre is genuinely crowded; twenty minutes out, it is not.
Rafting on the Beas at Pirdi, paragliding at Solang, the Hadimba and Manu temples, the hot springs at Vashisht, Naggar Castle and the Roerich gallery, and the cafés in Old Manali. The adventure package strings the best of it together.
