No visa is required for Indian passport holders. A tourist visa is granted on arrival for 30 days, free of charge. You need a confirmed hotel booking and a return ticket. The Maldives is one of the easiest international destinations for Indian travellers.
November to April is the dry season and the best time to visit, with calm seas and clear skies. May to October is the wet season, with occasional rain squalls, but underwater visibility is still excellent and prices are lower. Avoid August if you want guaranteed clear weather.
Many Maldives resorts are family-friendly with shallow lagoons, kids' clubs and family villa options. However, the most romantic overwater villas are designed for couples. If travelling with young children, choose a beach villa on a resort island with a shallow, calm lagoon rather than an overwater villa.
Speedboat transfers (40–90 min) are cheaper and cover resorts within 20–40 km of Malé. Seaplane transfers (15–30 min flying) reach more remote atolls and are one of the most spectacular arrivals in travel — landing on a turquoise lagoon. Seaplane transfers cost USD 250–500 per person return and operate only in daylight.
