Indian passport holders can get a visa on arrival at Suvarnabhumi and Phuket airports. The fee is approximately THB 2,000 (around ₹4,500). An e-Visa is also available through the Thai embassy website and avoids the queue on arrival. The visa allows a 30-day stay.
November to April is the dry season and the best time for most of Thailand. Phuket and Krabi are at their finest from November to April. Bangkok and Chiang Mai are pleasant from November to February. May to October is the rainy season, particularly on the west coast, but prices are lower and crowds are smaller.
Thailand is very safe for Indian families. Bangkok has excellent infrastructure, Phuket has calm beaches on the east coast, and Chiang Mai is peaceful. Keep children away from stray animals and always drink bottled water. Use registered taxis or Grab rather than unmetered cabs.
The Thai Baht (THB). USD and INR can be exchanged at SuperRich or authorised money changers in Bangkok and Phuket — much better rates than at airports. Cards are accepted at hotels and larger restaurants; street food stalls are cash-only.
